Chapter 1 - Fate Or Coincidence?

Moving, Just Keep Moving
Chapter 1

“Do you think he’s interested in me?” I ask turning to Harry as he pushes a pile of folders into my arms.
“And who would that be?” Looking at him I smile and wait, he knows who, but doesn't admit it.
“You know who”, I point my head towards Liam who stands across the hall a gang of girls laughing at his jokes, hanging on to his every word. Harry turns to look, passing a maths book into my arms in the process; I watch his expression as he glances in the gang’s direction, rolling his eyes and shaking his head. Staring into the dark depths of his locker he laughs and proceeds to return to ‘sorting’ the mess, “What? Why do you always pull that face?”
Harry grins, shrugging he closes the locker door, “He’s bad news and you know it. It’s as simple as that”, the bell rings signalling class, “Got to go I’ll call you later, okay?”
“Okay”, Harry must be the only person in school who actually rushes to class, and makes an effort to be there on time. If the bell rings and he’s not sat at his desk, well that just drives him insane.

I reach the English block heading towards the classroom; of course as I enter I notice that half of the class are missing. It’s a Friday afternoon and whilst most kids skip school and head down to the beach, I have no second thoughts about turning up to class. English is my favourite lesson, it baffles me how kids can dismiss it as an uninteresting, unimportant lesson.
“Ah Samantha nice to see you, well done on being one of fourteen students who have decided to attend on this glorious Friday afternoon”, Mr Myles turns to me smiling his curly mop bouncing as he springs across the classroom, “Question for you Samantha, do you know how many students  this classroom should be holding right now?”
I laugh shaking my head, “No sir.”
“Thirty two Samantha, eighteen students have made the great decision of dismissing my lesson. Eighteen bright and intelligent students have headed to the beach. These students are so intelligent that they believe that this behaviour is acceptable, that their papers will not be failed and I will not report their behaviour. Well I have news for them, I am writing out report cards for every single one of them right-“A knock on the door averts our attention, “Liam how nice of you to join us. Make that seventeen.” A sarcastic tone takes over Mr Myles voice, “Was the beach closed today?”
Liam dumps his navy sports bag on the table next to me shaking his head he sniggers, his sandy coloured hair shaking as he does so, “No sir.”
“Then why the hell are you here? In fact I don’t care, just let it be known that you’re friends are now on report cards, take it in your best interest to congratulate them”, smiling at Liam he raises his eyebrows and turns to the whiteboard, “Today we are starting new group projects, don’t get too excited”, he turns his body towards us smiling, pointing his pen in our general direction, “You should be working in pairs, but seen as Liam has turned up that’s kind of dismissed that idea.”
Liam moves his chair out from beneath the desk next to me, “I could leave sir?” No please don’t leave.
“No, no that won’t be necessary Liam, in fact you can work with Samantha”, Oh my freaking god. I can feel his eyes on me, but there is no way I can look up, instead I keep my focus on the notebook between us, that and his muscular, tanned arm that lays lazily on the table just inches from mine. He begins to move his table close to mine, prompting me to stare in his direction, “Liam” he smiles holding out his hand for me to shake.
“Samantha”, I smile and blush.
“Enough of the small talk, I’m pretty sure you've met before”, Mr Myles couldn't be more wrong, Liam has never spoke one word to me, “Just create an A grade piece of work, and on Tuesday you will be given the chance to wow me with your words”, Mr Myles smiled at us simply before striding across the room to his desk, and brushing his slim fit suit before sitting.
Liam grins, pushing his hair away from his forehead, “Right Samantha, how do you want to start this thing?” My god that hair. That sandy, golden, shiny hair…. What am I saying he isn't a Labrador!
“Huh?”
He chuckles, waving his hand in front of me, “Earth to Sam, how would you like to start, should we make a plan of the main points? Then we can research ideas and elaborate on them later?”
“Sure”, the words go in but I’m hardly concentrating, he called me Sam only Dad and Harry call me that. Only those two people know that it is my preferred name, the two people I love more than anyone else in this world. I think of what Harry would say, it’s just a coincidence.
But Harry maybe its fate.
After forty-five minutes of planning and drafting our coursework, Mr Myles calls time on the lesson, “Good work class, you have until Tuesday to finish this piece, so discuss how you will work on it over the weekend and then you may leave.”
Packing my books and paper back into my satchel I turn to face Liam, “I can meet up tomorrow night?”
He turns to me laughing, “Tomorrow’s a Saturday” he raises his eyebrows, chuckling as if I’d made a joke. Oh yeah he probably has some cool party to attend.
“Oh yeah, forgot for a second there…”
Heading out of the class he turns to me, “Make it tomorrow day and I’m all yours.”
“Yeah okay”, I shout to him as he rushes down the corridor not bothering to turn around.
